Black Sub
Arnold Childrens Party/
Holiday Party
Problem:
Design structures and environments to engage children and adults. The theme for this party was “Under the Sea.”
Soloution:
After several rounds of New Business presentations, there was an abundance of half-inch foam core remaining. I researched blueprints for the 1955 Nautilus, technical drawings of the USS Monitor and photos of the CSS Hunley to build rib designs. However, I had to modify the specs to allow for space for up to 4 children to climb inside. That interior space allowed children to climb into the sub and fire a custom-made ping-pong gun at a group of targets set across a stairwell and to turn the propeller. Overall, the sub was 25 feet long, 6 feet high and 4 feet wide. The sub was constructed entirely of half-inch foam core.
Timing:
The project took 4 people, working during down time, 1 week to complete.
